Cherry Creek State Park, Arapahoe: Thurs 9/16: a small raft of 12 redheads off the Prairie Loop; sparrows at turn from main road toward shooting range: 15 lark, 20 vesper, 2 savanna Fri 9/17 most of these sparrows gone. 2 vesper, 3 lark, 2 song, but 80 plus house finches in the same vegetation This count of sparrows far exceeds what I have seen there in the past three years. Unrelated item: At my feeder (Colorado Blvd and Orchard in Centennial), 10 days ago, I had a mountain chickadee. Whereas they are common nearer the foothills (Tina Jones, Ira Sanders), I almost never get them this far out on the plains, even in coldest winter.
