Got a call this AM that Cherry Creek State Park was active -- and it was. I got there at about the same time as most jet skiers - and there were many birds too distant for me to ID. But thanks to Glenn Walbek I got great looks at an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and several Sabine's Gulls (at least 1 adult and 3 juveniles). The Lesser Black-backed Gull was on the east side of the reservoir standing on a sandbar with pelicans when I arrived - its bright yellow legs clearly distinguished it from a Great Black-backed Gull. Later, it flushed towards the center of the reservoir.
Several rafts of Ruddy Ducks were trying to find some calm water away from all of the jet skiers. I haven't been to Cherry Creek in a few weeks - but it's been a long time since I've seen that many Ruddy's!!! There was a distant group of Phalarope sp. -- but in the bright sunlight I did not get any definitive ID.
