Adams County:
--A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was reported by Wild at the Barr Lake Banding Station on
September 24.
Boulder County:
--A Palm Warbler was reported by Floyd at Greenlee Preserve on September 22.
The bird was along the west shore of Waneka Lake, in the cattails.
--A Palm Warbler was reported by Floyd at Walden Ponds on September 22. The
bird was in the southwest corner of the pond just south of Cottonwood Marsh.
--The Pacific Loon first reported by Blatchley on July 10 at MacIntosh Lake,
was seen as recent as September 25 by Gent.
--A Broad-winged Hawk (adult) was reported by Severs at Bald Mountain on
September 26. Severs also reports a Broad-winged hawk (juv) in SW Longmont on
September 26.
--5 juv. Sabine's Gulls were reported by Kaempfer at Boulder Reservoir on
September 26. Kaempfer also reports a jaeger sp. flying over Boulder Reservoir
on September 26.
--3 adult Caspian Terns were reported by Kaempfer at Six Mile Reservoir on
September 26.
Denver County:
--2 juv. Sabine's Gulls were reported by Jones at Marston Reservoir on
September 27.
El Paso County:
--2 juv. Sabine's Gulls were reported by Peterson at Big Johnson Reservoir on
September 22.
--A Magnolia Warbler (hatch year) was banded by Gibbons at the Chico Basin
Ranch banding station on September 22. The banding station demo area is free
but there is a fee to bird Chico Basin Ranch. The banded bird was reported by
Gobris as recently as September 25.
Huerfano County:
--A Sabine's Gull was reported by Neldner at Lathrop State Park on September
22.
Jefferson/Douglas County:
--A juv. Sabine's Gull was reported by Hager at Chatfield Reservoir on
September 23. The bird was seen by the Platte River inlet canal area.
Jefferson County:
--A Winter Wren (eastern) was reported by Sanders on September 25. The bird
was seen and heard in his yard in Golden.
Kit Carson County:
--A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER (female type) was reported by Smith in the big elm in
the park in Arriba on September 25.
Larimer County:
--2 juv. Sabine's Gulls were reported by Wild at Duck Lake on September 22. One
juv. Sabine's Gull was reported by Leatherman on September 25.
Logan County:
--3 or 4 SPRAGUE'S PIPITS were reported by Severs east of Sterling on September
23. Severs recommends trying the County Roads SW of Fleming.
Mesa County:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by Coates at the Grand Valley Audubon
Society banding station on September 25.
Pueblo County:
--A juv. Sabine's Gull was reported by Drummond at the Headquarters Pond at
Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) on September 22; it was seen by Maynard on
September 23.
Washington County:
--3 Cassin's Kingbirds were reported by Smith at the Otis Cemetery on September
25.
--A SPRAGUE'S PIPIT and 4 Cassin's Kingbirds were reported by Smith at SH 61
(about 3-4 miles north of US 36 on September 25.
--2 Cassin's Kingbirds were reported by Smith at Cope Cemetery on September 25.
Weld County:
--A juv. ARCTIC TERN was reported by Wild at Black Hollow Reservoir on
September 22.
--An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Kibbe at Black Hollow
Reservoir on September 25. The bird was in the gull roost at the northwest
corner of the reservoir.
--A Winter Wren was reported by Roller at Norma's Grove, just east of county
roads 57 and 100 in Weld County, on September 22.
--A Winter Wren was reported by Kibbe at Crow Valley Campground on September
25.
--A Cassin's Kingbird was reported by Wild at Norma's Grove on September 22.
--A Palm Warbler was reported by Kibbe at the northwest side of Crow Valley
Campground on September 22.
--A Great Crested Flycatcher was reported by Wild at Crow Valley Campground on
September 22.
--A Sabine's Gull was reported by Plage at Union Reservoir on September 25.
--A Blackpoll Warbler was reported by Kibbe at Crow Valley Campground on
September 25.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, October 2 is to Cherry Creek State Park. Bob
Brown (303) 791-6204 is the leader. Meet at 0730 at West Marina. From Yosemite
St. go east on Union Ave. past Cherry Creek High School to park entrance.1/2
day trip. Lunch optional. Bring scopes for those “far-out” water birds and
far-away tree top raptors searching for prey. (State Parks Pass required)
The DFO field trip for Sunday, October 3 is to Chatfield State Park. Ed Holub
(303) 979-2194 is the leader. Meet at 0730 at swim beach. From C470, take
Wadsworth South 1.5 miles to park entrance. Lunch optional, but you may want to
stay longer if Ed has other “hot spots” to check out. (Parks Pass required)
