I posted the enormous number of Wood Ducks, 46, on Ricky Weiser Pond at Walden Ponds on 8-1. On 9-8, there were at least 18, on 9-12, 13 were present and on 9-26 there were 19. Today they appear to be gone, but the water is quite low, with lots of algae. Because I've not seen this here before, I'd be interested in any hypotheses people have about the earlier large numbers. Maybe it's just the odd way in which I experienced waterfowl migration this year.
