Hi Birders,
A pattern is developing……a few mixed flocks early in the morning (often 6-8
birds, all in the same net, and perhaps nothing else in the run), then relative
quiet for a couple of hours, then a flurry of primarily Chipping Sparrow
activity when we are closing about noon. Today, we flushed 8 CHSPs out of the
smartweed into a row of nets on the last run. A dozen or more others went
right over the net into the trees.
Today’s total new birds was double yesterday:
House Wren 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Hermit Thrush 3
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 4
Wilson’s Warbler 1
Spotted Towhee 1
Chipping Sparrow 13
Lincoln’s Sparrow 1
Gambel’s White-crowned Sparrow 2
Oregon Junco 1
We’ve set the schedule for the final 1½ weeks:
Closed tomorrow (Wednesday, 10/6) and next Tuesday, 10/12. Last day will be
Saturday, October 16 (NOT Sunday, as originally scheduled.)
So, open now through Saturday, October 16, except Wed this week and Tues next.
Enjoy a day of fall with us!
