COBirders,

The scheduled CFO field trip to the TNC's Fox Ranch property produced
lots of migrant sparrows in the tallgrass prairie, in brush piles, and in
the rolling hills with horseweed, cholla, and little bluestem grasses.

Highlights from 2 hours on Friday and from Saturday morning included:

SPRAGUE'S PIPIT - 3 - not seen by all, one, and later two more flushed
from the ground
LECONTE'S SPARROW - 1 rufous-rumped individual only seen by a few, but
seen multiple times, mostly in flight
Grasshopper Sparrow - a minimum of 6 identified, mostly in flight, with
additional likely candidates seen flying away
"RED" FOX SPARROW - 1 perched in a tree for photographs
Field Sparrow - 7 on Friday, at least two on Saturday
Eastern Screech-Owl - 2 heard this morning before most people arrived
Orchard Oriole, 1st year male photographed, a very late migrant.

All the participants wish to express their gratitude to The Nature
Conservancy for allowing the Colorado Field Ornithologists' field trip
participants to bird on TNC property and to the three watchful bulls for
doing nothing more than staring at us in disbelief as we walked through
their pasture.
