Hi Birders,
A perfectly beautiful morning – crisp, calm, sunny. But very few birds – 13,
including 5 recaps. But there was surprising diversity - 12 species – enough
to keep an enthusiastic and large group of homeschoolers engaged. Two FOS – a
Blue Jay and a Common Grackle. One HY female Wilson’s Warbler, banded on the
7th, was still hanging around. She has tons of fat…..hope she moves on tonight
before the next storm hits! Oh, yes, and another Eastern Winter Wren…….this
makes four! We probably haven’t banded 4 WIWRs in the history of the station
before this year.
Here’s the rundown on the new birds for the day:
Blue Jay 1
Winter Wren 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Song Sparrow 1
Slate-colored Junco 1
Pink-sided Junco 1
Common Grackle 1
Closed Tuesday, then open Wednesday through Saturday. 7:30 to about 11:30,
depending on weather. Then, that’s it for the fall season!
