After Bob Brown's earlier post about the Golden-crowned Sparrow, this may be old news or good news. The bird was still at the Red Rocks Trading Post about noon today, and still at the east feeder in the back yard. By the time we arrived, it may have been sated from earlier feeding. Its trips to the feeder were sporadic and brief, since it was only darting from the shadows to the ground below the feeder and snatching a bite before it left instead of staying on the ground, like some of the other birders there had observed. The golden crown of this otherwise dull little sparrow was startlingly brilliant in the sun, making it easy to spot among the other small birds around it. A birder told us that a Golden-crowned has shown up at the Trading Post for the past three years.
