Yesterday I found Common Loon diving in a very shallow Brush Hollow
Reservoir northeast of Canon City. This irrigation reservoir was filled to
almost overflowing earlier this spring and how is diminished to less than a
fourth of capacity. Also at that reservoir was a lone long-necked grebe, a
few Ring-necked Gulls and some Canada Geese. I also found a Chihuahuan
Raven about a mile southeast of Brush Hollow.

I have been checking the usual locations in Canon City for winter sapsuckers
for the past couple of weeks and had found a few probable fresh sap wells
but no sapsuckers until today when I found a female Williamson's at the
Abbey. While I watched her, first a Downy flew close then later another
woodpecker that might have been another sapsucker flew into the tree she was
working on then out so I only got a glimpse. The Williamson's didn't try to
chase them away but clearly reacted to their presence. I got photos and
video but am behind so won't have these up on my blog for a day or so.
