Friday, while scouting for an Audubon field trip today (Saturday) I saw a female Eastern Towhee perched at the top of some willows. Today during our field trip, we were unable to refind it. I might possibly have heard her however -- but just one call. We saw only 3 (Spotted) towhees today but yesterday I saw 6-8.
This occurred at Tomichi Gulch Open Space. To get there go to the traffic light in Franktown; south on Colo. 83 a half to 3/4 of a mile. Turn left (east) on Russelville Road. Continue on Russelville 2-3 miles; left on Tomichi. Continue about a quarter-mile and pull into the small parking lot on the right. A sign says it's a covenant community -- park there; it might also say, "Tomichi Gulch."
