Paul Slingsby and I visited four mountain lakes as part of Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory's Barrow's Goldeneye count Sunday. Windy Gap Reservoir was frozen. Granby Reservoir was virtually 100% open making viewing challenging because many waterbirds were distant in choppy water. Grand Lake was mostly frozen with only four Mallards. Shadow Mountain Reservoir was 90-95% ice making viewing in the limited open water near the dam excellent.
