Hello, Birders. Connie Kogler and I saw some nice birds out at Union Reservoir, Weld County, earlier this morning, Saturday, December 4th, among them:
1 juvenile Black-legged Kittiwake 2 adult female Long-tailed Ducks 15+ Bonaparte's Gulls 204 (!) Eared Grebes 1 adult female Prairie Merlin sitting on a cowpie and plucking the eyes out of a Horned Lark Union is absolutely packed with birds right now--gazillions of goldeneyes, mergansers, gulls, coots, grebes, etc. The 204 Eared Grebes are an astounding count for December. Most Front Range CBCs are hard pressed to find just one. The kittiwake was flying around constantly, covering a lot of ground. It did put down briefly, right next to a Bonaparte's Gull. But it seems to be exceedingly flighty, for want of a better word. The Long-tailed Ducks were near the park/playground area on the southwest side. Over at nearby McIntosh Lake, Boulder County, we saw 1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull. Lots of mergs and goldeneyes, too, and a few Lesser Scaup. ------------------------------- Ted Floyd Editor, Birding Blog: http://tinyurl.com/2g2staq Twitter: http://tinyurl.com/2wj9djj Facebook: http://tinyurl.com/2wkvwxs ------------------------------- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
