The BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE first seen on 11/28/2010 is still at Martin Lake,
Lathrop State Park. Actually we think there may be 2, as we saw one at
Martin Lake. Then as we were driving around Horseshoe Reservoir we saw what
we thought was the same bird...however we returned to Martin Lake less than
5 minutes later and saw the same species again! We got some great flyover
shots this weekend. They can be seen at Colorado Birder.

I am, I am ashamed to admit, one of those people who until recently did not
report to CBRC...that us until I realized how important is. I have since
reported all the rarities in my yard this year and included photos. I hope
they can be done retroactively. I just did not think the Orchard Oriole I
saw in my yard in May was that big a deal as I had posted it and the
Baltimore Oriole that arrived at the same time, but none of the groups would
include it in their rare bird alerts. I was subsequently told by 2 fellow
birders that there were no records in Huerfano County for that species....so
I reported it to CBRC. It can be discouraging and frustrating at times when
you see a bird that you know is unusual for your particular area...and it is
not acknowledged...so just submit it...one county's ho-hum bird can be a
rarity for your area!

And yes, I did submit a record of the Black-legged Kittiwake...
