Today's Pueblo Reservoir CBC found 118 species. The best bird was a PACIFIC
WREN that was seen and heard at close range. There will be efforts to
photograph this bird in the coming days.
Other highlights: Greater Scaup (10); Barrow's Goldeneye (1); Pacific Loon
(1); Common Loon (6); Eared Grebes (3000+); Bonaparte's (170+), Thayer's (1),
Lesser Black-backed (4), and Great Black-backed Gulls (1); White-winged Dove
(150); Black Phoebe (2); Say's Phoebe (1); Pygmy Nuthatch (8); Winter Wren (4);
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (1); Hermit Thrush (1); Northern Mockingbird (2); Sage
Thrasher (4); Lincoln's (1), Swamp (3), and White-throated Sparrows (1); Common
and Great-tailed Grackles; and Cassin's Finch (1).
There seemed to be a lot of birds in low numbers, like most waterfowl, and only
1 Western Bluebird, 1 Western Scrub-Jay, and 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch.
Some big misses were Northern Pintail, Prairie Falcon, Brewer's Blackbird
(again for the second year in a row). The Long-tailed Duck and Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers that were seen in the last couple of weeks, weren't found today.
Thanks to all the people who were able to help out this year, we didn't seem to
have as many people this year, and only a small crowd (though everyone's lists)
were at the compilation party this evening.
