Greetings, list folk-

I'm forwarding this message on behalf of Andrew Mackie, compiler of the Salida
CBC. It was held on Sat., 12/18 with decent weather in most of the circle
(snowing in the mountain portion), no snow cover, and lots of open water. In
addition to the "new for the list" species (note that lone Sandhill Crane!), it
was only the 2nd time for Ross's Goose and Harris's Sparrow. Also, the
California Gulls were only the 2nd time ANY gull species has been seen in this
mountain circle-the much more expected, although certainly still uncommon,
Ring-billed Gulls were seen in 2008.

Subject: Results from the Salida CBC

Overall it was a good count with 74 total species and 3,490 individual birds
counted. We had 21 people participate. The highest totals for a species was 721
Canada Geese, followed by 675 Starlings. We had four new species to the count:
Sandhill Crane, California Gull, Northern Mockingbird, and Common Grackle
(based upon acceptance by the regional compiler).
