COBirders, For those interested, sorry for the slowness but here are the preliminary results of the Penrose CBC held on Sunday December 19th. Seventeen participants plus some feeder watchers including a few yet to report we found 117 species. The big miss of the day were the Greater White-fronted Geese that somehow avoided us all day. The common comment among all groups was that there just did not seem to be that many birds. I have not had time to get everything recorded to see what the total individual number is but obviously the total species is not low. Some of the highlights were: Eared Grebe (3rd time)4 species of Owl3 species of Sapsucker (including 19 Williamson's)Black Phoebe (private property)Say's PhoebePACIFIC WRENWinter Wren (7 total!)Hermit ThrushGray CatbirdLincoln's SparrowSwamp SparrowHarris's SparrowCommon GrackleGreat-tailed GrackleLesser Goldfinch Hopefully I have not missed anything. A huge thank you to all the participants who came out to help, these counts could not be done without you!
