To all,

After a chilly morning from about 10-11A at Red Rocks Trading Post with
Harris's, White throated, and Golden Crowned Sparrows, Curve Billed
Thrasher, and all 3 species of Rosy Finches, we went to Chatfield.

We were able to initially find a Lapland Longspur mixed with a flock of
about 25 Horned Larks at the Model Airplane Field, and a Thayer's Gull and
single Red Breasted Merganser at the reservoir. After a lunch break, we had
been told of and found a prairie falcon roosting in cottonwoods along the
Highline Canal, near the model airplane field, from the parking lot near
the south entrance to Chatfield. Returning to the marina at Chatfield, from
the handicapped fisherman's point, we were at last able to find both the Red
Necked Grebe (near the dam, behind the scads of Common Mergs and Common
Goldeneyes, etc) and one of the reported Glaucous Gulls (resting nearer to
the tower, close to the dam face).

Happy New Year of birding,

Cheryl Teuton and Dan Brooke
