CoBirders,

We could not have asked for a better day for the Fountain Creek Regional Park,
El Paso County Winter Bird Count. With temps that rose into the 50's, calm
wind, mostly clear sky and a steady barometer all participants enjoyed being
out and enjoying the birds. Thirty five people broke in to 5 teams to cover
the 400+ acre park. Roughly 58 species were observed for the day. While I do
not have the total numbers added yet, I am including a list below. Best birds
include: Canvasback (rare in the park), Blue-winged Teal (yes, way out of
season, but a team of 5 competent birders saw them), Merlin, Winter Wren,
American Pipit, Pine Warbler & Harris's Sparrow.

I'd be interested in hearing of any new species observed over the next three
days in the park. If anyone needs details on where the rarer birds were
observed, feel free to contact me.
