Hey all, had a nice day birding in and mostly around the RMArsenal-NWRefuge. Chavez and I wanted to see some birds of prey so we drove up to the visitor center and then around the outside perimeter (88th, Hwy2).
We were rewarded with some great views in only 2 hours. Prarie Falcon - 2 (one with mouse in mouth) Golden Eagle -1 (great light, nice photos) American Kestrel - 5 Northern Harrier - 2 (male & female, nice views) Red Tailed Hawk - 10 Bald Eagle - 2 (adults, seen from outside fence @ northwest corner of Arsenal) Ferruginous Hawk - 1 (seen from outside fence @ northwest corner of Arsenal) Also saw the usual red-winged blackbirds, magpies, etc. Perhaps because of the impending storm (?), we saw two different coyotes roaming around, during daylight (midday) which was a first for me. One of the two coyotes seen was right at the entrance @ Havana. The Arsenal is a great place for birding [& wildlife] ! and not a long drive !
