TUNDRA SWAN (*Boulder) Long-tailed Duck (*Adams, Larimer) Barrow's Goldeneye (Adams, *Summit) Thayer's Gull (Boulder, Broomfield) Lesser Black-backed Gull (Boulder, Broomfield) Great Black-backed Gull (*Arapahoe, Boulder) Glaucous Gull (Broomfield) White-winged Dove (Arapahoe, *Huerfano) Curve-billed Thrasher (Jefferson) PINE WARBLER (*El Paso) Swamp Sparrow (Boulder) White-throated Sparrow (Jefferson) Harris's Sparrow (*El Paso, Jefferson, Las Animas) GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW (Jefferson) Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (*Huerfano, Jefferson, Routt, *Summit) Black Rosy-Finch (*Huerfano, Jefferson) Adams County: --6 Barrow's Goldeneye were reported by Kaempfer on the South Platte River at 88th Ave on January 22. --A Long-tailed Duck was reported by Hundertmark at the Thornton Water Pond on the west side of the Platte River south from 88th on January 9 and was seen by Wild on January 17. It was seen by Cech on January 23 between Florida Ave and the pedestrian bridge 200 yards north. Arapahoe County: --An adult Great Black-Backed Gull was reported by Keithler at Cherry Creek State Park on January 23. --A White-Winged Dove was reported by Leigh in the Willow Creek Drainage on January 19 and was seen again on January 22. The drainage area is a southeasterly extension of Willow Creek Park. Walk south along the trail from the park - cross the small bridge and then it is about 400 ft to a junction and a bridge across the main creek. Continue on the trail approximately 1200 feet to the area where the bird has been seen. Boulder County: --An adult TUNDRA SWAN was first reported by Gent at the Valmont Power Plant on November 25 and was seen as recently as January 23. --A Lesser Black-blacked Gull and a Thayer's Gull were reported by Floyd at Waneka Lake on January 21. --A Swamp Sparrow was reported by Floyd on the west side of Greenlee Preserve on January 21 and was seen by Kaempfer on January 22. --A Great Black-backed Gull was reported by Smart at the Valmont Power Plant on January 22. Broomfield County: --A Glaucous Gull, a Lesser-Black Backed Gull and 4 Thayer's Gulls were reported by Kaempfer at the pond south of Highway 7 and east of Lowell Street on January 22. El Paso County: --On January 8 on the Fountain Creek Winter Bird Count, Pals reported a PINE WARBLER and a Harris's Sparrow. On January 22 Pals reported the PINE WARBLER between the trail mile marker 18 and the sewage treatment box with the yellow rails. On January 23 Maynard reported that two Harris's Sparrows are regularly being seen at Fountain Creek Regional Park, usually in the dry irrigation ditch near the Rice's Pond southernmost kiosk, they are also also being reported near the south side feeders at the Nature Center. Huerfano County: --All 3 species of Rosy-Finches and a White-winged Dove have returned to the yard of Beverly Jensen in La Veta If you would like to try to see these birds, call her at 719-989-1398. Jefferson County: --On January 22, Cameron reported that the White-throated Sparrow, Harris's Sparrow and the Curve-billed Thrasher were seen at Red Rocks Trading Post. The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, and all 3 species of Rosy-finches were last reported on January 19. Larimer County: --A juv. Long-tailed Duck was reported by Meyer on the Poudre River on January 18 and was seen again on January 20 by Leatherman. Park at the North Shields Parking Lot and walk on the trail directly west until you hit the river Routt County: --Gray-crowned Rosy Finches (and a few Brown Rosy -Finches )were reported by Merrill visiting the feeders at the Steamboat Springs ski area feeding station on January 20 and 21. Summit County: --Approximately 25 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by McConnell at the Blue River Water Treatment Plant in Silverthorne on January 23. --Gray-crowned Rosy-finches were reported by McConnell in Silverthorne at Blue River Drive on January 23. The DFO Monthly Meeting is Monday January 24, 2011 at 7:30PM at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Nick Komar will present "The Gulls of Colorado". The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, January 29 is to South Platte Park - Carson Nature Center, led by Ed Holub (303-979-2194). Meet at 0800 at Nature Center parking lot, (north of Mineral Avenue, 1 block west of Santa Fe Drive, behind Aspen Grove shopping center.) Raptors and waterfowl plus winter visitors and permanent residents at the Center"s feeders. The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, January 30 is a Birds of Prey Driving Tour, led by Kathanne Lynch (303-968-4750). 10:00am - 1:00pm Auto carpool loop tour from Lagerman Reservoir near Longmont.
