yards south.

Water Pond on the west side of the Platte River south from 88th on January 9
and was seen by Wild on January 17. It was seen by Chavez on January 25. just
north of Florida Ave.

Arapahoe County:
--A POSSIBLE Black-tailed Gull was reported by Beltz at Cherry Creek State Park
on January 27. The bird was not relocated on January 28.
--A White-Winged Dove was reported by Leigh in the Willow Creek Drainage on
January 19 and was seen again on January 26. The drainage area is a
southeasterly extension of Willow Creek Park. Walk south along the trail from
the park - cross the small bridge and then it is about 400 ft to a junction and
a bridge across the main creek. Continue on the trail approximately 1200 feet
to the area where the bird has been seen.

Boulder County:
--An adult TUNDRA SWAN was first reported by Gent at the Valmont Power Plant on
November 25 and was seen as recently as January 30.

Broomfield County:
--A Glaucous Gull, a Lesser-Black Backed Gull and 4 Thayer’s Gulls were
reported by Kaempfer at the pond south of Highway 7 and east of Lowell Street
on January 22. The Lesser-Black-backed Gull was reported by Gent on January 30.

Delta County:
--17 Barrow’s Goldeneye were reported by Garrison at Confluence Park on Jauary
28.
--A White-throated Sparrow was reported by Garrison at the Forest Service
office in Paonia (9403 N. Rio Grande) on January 27 and 28.

Douglas County:
--2 Barrow’s Goldeneyes (1m, 1f) were reported by Spellman in Parker at Twenty
Mile Road and Main Street on January 30.

El Paso County:
--On January 8 on the Fountain Creek Winter Bird Count, Pals reported a PINE
WARBLER and a Harris’s Sparrow. On January 22 Pals reported the PINE WARBLER
between the trail mile marker 18 and the sewage treatment box with the yellow
rails. On January 23 Maynard reported that two Harris’s Sparrows are regularly
being seen at Fountain Creek Regional Park, usually in the dry irrigation ditch
near the Rice’s Pond southernmost kiosk, they are also also being reported near
the south side feeders at the Nature Center.

Fremont County:
--2 Harris’s Sparrows (1st year) were reported by Moss in a field just outside
of Florence on January 23.

Huerfano County:
--All 3 species of Rosy-Finches and a White-winged Dove have returned
to the yard of Beverly Jensen in La Veta If you would like to try to see
these birds, call her at 719-989-1398.

Jefferson County:
--On January 31, Henwood reported that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, Harris’s
Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Curve-billed Thrasher and all 3 species of
Rosy-finches were seen at Red Rocks Trading Post.

Lake County:
--3 TRUMPETER SWANS (first reported in November by Kalbach) were reported by
Kalbach at Twin Lakes (near the power plant) on January 29 and were seen by
McConnell on January 30.

Larimer County:
--A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported by Leatherman at Grandview Cemetery
(at the west terminus of Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins) on January 26 and was
seen again by Biggerstaff on January 27 and by Letterman on January 30. If you
come west on Mountain Avenue past the cemetery office and in the main entrance,
go across the ditch bridge, make an immediate right (heading north) and
parallel the ditch for a hundred yards or so until reaching a 90-degree curve
in the extreme northeast corner of Section A. Between the road curve and the
ditch is a big, double-stemmed Scots Pine (the only true pine in the immediate
area). The bird is difficult to observe near the upper part (within ten feet
of the top of the tree) of the main (thicker) trunk. Leatherman recommends
driving slowly north from the entrance along the ditch, thru the corner to
locate the tree, then parking at least 50 yards west of it. Scan the north
side of the pine trunk about half way up for the bird from inside your car. If
present, it will probably allow slow approach on foot to within about 20 yards,
then will start playing hide and seek.
--A juv. Long-tailed Duck was reported by Meyer on the Poudre River on January
18 and was seen again on January 24 by Leatherman. The duck was about a half
mile north of where the path going west from the North Shields Pond Natural
Area parking lot meets the river. The duck was by itself in a pool of water
below a dam north of the Sterling Natural Area, which is just north of NSPNA
(our City Natural Areas people are fond of names and signs). From the NSPNA
parking lot, walk west to the river (dam/spillway here) and then north on the
dirt path out of NSP NA into Sterling NA (a painless, unnatural transition) and
keep going north to a green bridge which crosses the river ("Notice - No
Trespassing" sign on the west side of this bridge). Look north from the middle
of the bridge to a distant dam marked by considerable orange tarping. The bird
was in the river pool just south of the orange-tarped dam. The bridge is
public, the
riverbank next to where the duck was sitting is not.
--2 American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Rashid in the Cow Creek
area of RMNP on January 27. The woodpeckers were just south of the Ranch in
the trees at the corner as you enter the woods.

Las Animas County:
--A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported by Vanderpool feeding in the
Cottonwood Trees alongside the park with the baseball diamond in the front of
town (?Trinidad?) on January 26.

Black-backed Gull was reported by Kosar on January 30. On January 27, Percival
reported 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and the Great Black-backed Gull, as well
as a possible ICELAND GULL.

marina, on January 30.
