Took advantage of last weekend's warmth (60 degree highs on Jan. 30) and went fly fishing on the South Platte (Cheesman Canyon). We hiked in to a section of river known as Cow's Crossing, then fished our way upstream. At Cow's Crossing, we watched one American Dipper from approx. five feet away. Fearless and hardworking little songbird, diving from a small boulder in the middle of the stream and resurfacing five to 10 seconds later. Seemingly oblivious to our presence. I'm new to birding, and this was a pretty neat experience and a fun I.D.
