Hello, Birders.

Just a quick note to hear to let folks know that the Swamp Sparrow--now
starting to acquire alternate plumage--is still at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder
County. Hannah and Andrew and I saw it there late in the afternoon on both
Saturday, February 12th, and Sunday, February 13th.

One bit of editorializing. When you have a known individual, like this Swamp
Sparrow, present for a long time, you also have a great opportunity to study
molts and plumages. It's one thing to read about these topics in, say, the Pyle
Guide. But nothing beats real, live experience in the field. Spending 8 or 10
weeks *with the same bird* is a fantastic way to enhance your enjoyment of
birding--and, while you're at it, to improve your skills as a birder.

(Yes, Pete Plage, we make Hannah and Andrew study sparrow molt. It's good for
them.)
