Jeff, I had my first Pink-sided Junco singing on 2/5/11. However, it was performing a sub-song, or whisper song, which in juncos is a jumbled mess of notes, not the organized trill of the full song. Some other songsters getting revved up these past few weeks: Great Horned Owl Eurasian Collared-Dove House Finch House Sparrow European Starling Red-winged Blackbird Black-capped Chickadee Mountain Chickadee Townsend's Solitaire American Robin Song Sparrow Steller's Jay (whisper song) Common Raven Northern Flicker Birds like Red-tailed Hawks and Golden Eagles are on territory, displaying away. Bald Eagles are on eggs in Boulder Co. I have a second-hand report of a Canyon Wren singing. And then just take a few minutes to watch things like Common Goldeneye and you will know that love is most definitely in the air.

Date: Tue, 1 Mar 2011 09:02:38 -0700 Ahhhh… my reminder of spring-on-the-way up here in Teller County… first singing Junco of the season this morning. Sunny and warm. My earliest over the years appears to be 2/21 in 1999; with the majority of first songs delivered at my home from the 10th through the 17th of March.
