2 White-winged Doves have been the only oddity at our feeders these
days...which means they have been here all winter! Who knows...maybe they
will stick around and breed!

With the unusually beautiful weather we have been having the past couple of
days we decided we should go back out the Lathop...just to see if anyone new
had shown up.
While most all the species we saw yesterday were present and accounted for,
the exceptions being the Wood Ducks and Bonaparte's Gull we did see:
A pair of Great Horned Owls...checking out nesting sites...this was quite a
treat as we always consider a day with the siting of any kind of owl a good
day!
2 Buffleheads and 6 Hooded Mergansers 4 American Wigeons joined the
migrating waterfowl at Horseshoe lake

We then decided that as we were out and about...it was "our duty" to check
out the La Veta town lakes and other bodies of water close to home. At the
town lakes we found a pair of Bald Eagles in what all the locals call "the
Bald Eagle tree" a pair of Common Goldeneye and a dozen or so Canada Geese.
Having gone that far we went a little further to an irrigation pond and
found our first of the season Cinnamon Teal.

Wahatoya/Daigre Lakes had only one Common Merganser

All in all a good day...but not the be outdone...a Bald Eagle flew over the
house just after we arrive home becoming our 118th yard bird! Considering
they perch in the trees at Wahatoya/Diagre Lakes less than 1/4 mile from our
house when they are not at the town lakes...it was high time they gave us a
good flyover!
