I know I am revealing that I am a sentimental fool and subject to stretching
coincidences. Nevertheless, this makes me happy, so I persist.

As you know, I've been longing for the Say's phoebes to return. Yesterday,
during the brief midday spring, we were having lunch on our deck with two
workmen friends when my spouse exclaimed, "There's a bird inspecting the
phoebe ledge!" (Last August a late season nest there fledged 4 young which
remained here into October). A Say's phoebe was resting on the ledge (and I
believe it was thinking, "Wow! The old homestead hasn't changed a bit in all
this time!") All of 4 months...

However it was not happy with our human chitchat below and took off again.
Now I can wait for the other siblings or parents, hoping that somebody else
will want to give it another try...

PS another bald eagle nest has been discovered in central Boulder County;
Sue Cass of BCNA says this will be the 6th ! It is good to see that these
exciting birds have recovered so much since their nadir in the 1950s when my
school "Weekly Reader" announced that the species was disappearing fast...
