Hi all

Yesterday's big wind did "the business" at Spring Park Reservoir and
transformed the ice conditions from 85% frozen to 85% open water!

Much of the ice is piled in big heaps along the shore and promontories
towards the north end. The NE arm is still mainly frozen.

The duck numbers are increasing steadily.. (there are over 1000 ducks
already) but not a single shorebird or hirundine yet..

this evening's highlights included

66+Barrow's Goldeneyes

1 Red-breasted Merganser (drake)

In addition (in some semblance of decreasing order of abundance)

Green-winged Teal

Common Goldeneye

Mallard

Gadwall

Ring-necked Duck

American Wigeon

Canada Geese

Bufflehead

Common Merganser

Lesser Scaup

Northern Shoveler

No sign however of last Friday's stunning male Northern Harrier.

Nearby I watched two Beavers feeding at dusk, close to the car,

and at different private locations I heard two Northern Saw-whet Owls (of
which I saw one)

Early from our house there were

Pinyon Jays at our feeders

4 Yellow-headed Blackbirds

2 Lincoln's Sparrows still

an Osprey on a pole overlooking the old sewage ponds (now a solar power
plant) - guess it was reminiscing ?

Good birding all
