A year and a half ago in early July, we had a Mountain Chickadee show up in the
yard. He has been here ever since and always comes in with a Black-capped
Chickadee. I have always suspected that they were eventually going to breed in
our area. This week, I noticed the pair going in and out of our nest box in
the front yard. Even though they can nest in the same area research says that
it is a rare occurence. Does anyone out there have experience with
hybridization of the two chickadees? I'm hoping they pick this box so I can
see the offspring of the two. Yesterday, Tom Pollock and I ran into David
Waltman and had great views of the Neotropic Cormorant. He seems very
comfortable hanging out with his relatives! A couple of photos can be seen in
the Rare and Uncommon gallery below.
