COBirders,
About an hour ago I was surprised by a pair (m/f) of Lesser Goldfinches at my niger (a.k.a. thistle, nyjer) feeder, the male being an adult "green back" coming into alternate plumage. According to Dave Silverman's Pueblo Area Migration Calendar, this species does appear--albeit somewhat rarely--in the winter so he does not list first and last migration dates for it. Lesser Goldfinches are late breeders and in past years they have appeared in my backyard in mid-summer, and brought fledglings in August or even well into September.
