I have seen several Snowy Egrets in the Canon City area in the past week
that are stopping over during their migration including up to 4 flying
together in Florence and 2 in Canon City. I got a fun photo of one in the
flooded fields in the nearby town of Florence whose plumes were blowing in
the ever-present winds that I have posted on to my
BirdsAndNature<http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com>blog along with a
series of photos of some Wilson's Snipe sharing those
fields. I saw my FOY Great Egret that appeared to get stuck in one of the
strong wind gusts two nights ago as it battled to continue flying. I was
surprised to find a Cattle Egret on a pond in Canon City as this species is
very uncommon here. The FOY White-faced Ibis, a flock of about 25, arrived
in the flooded fields in Florence on Wednesday. That same day I saw FOY
Franklin's Gulls in several locations in Canon City including some
agricultural fields. Waterbird migration is going strong.
