Yesterday, Saturday, morning our Denver Audubon bird class enjoyed the
WRGB ducks at close range (dabblers) and far range (divers), including
the Mandarin Duck that hangs out on Clear Creek near the SW corner of
the parking lot, acting the diva as it sidles closer and closer to
people with cameras (or maybe to an attractive female Mallard).
The big excitement for us: we watched Bushtits putting finishing
touches on a nest. One gathered white fluffy stuff from a willow and
flew to the nest tree, where an 8-10 inch sock hung down. Presumably,
the birds had reached the stage of lining the nest. A NB confirmation
for the Breeding Bird Atlas Golden priority block!
[No sign of the nesting Cooper's Hawks from the last two years.]
