On 16 April, 2011 there was a Dusky Grouse at 8500 feet, 2 miles east of the Boy Scout Camp off Rampart Range Road just north of the west end of Queens Canyon in a steep draw. I flushed him. He flew to a pine tree branch and just sat and looked at me. This are is nearly in accessible. You can take the ridgeline above "The COS Scar" about 3 miles west, then drop down 500 feet to the spot. Or you can enter Queens Canyon from Rampart Range road and hike 2 miles east. 38 55.894N, 104 55.312W. If you paste those coordinates into Google Earth, or Google Maps, you can see the spot. Not for the faint hearted.
