Cobirders,
Yesterday, I sought expert advice on the colored band combination I
observed on one of three Hudsonian Godwits at Neenoshe Reservoir in
Kiowa County, Colorado (I failed to mention that two southeast Colorado
birders, Stan Oswald and Janeal Thompson dropped everything and joined
me in the late afternoon, and helped observe the birds). I received a
tremendous amount of interest and help regarding my posting. Jora
Rehm-Lorber immediately responded and told me that the male Hudsonian
Godwit was banded at Chiloe Island in Chile. Kayleen Niyo got me in
contact with Brad Andres, USFWS director of North American Shorebird
Recovery Efforts. Brad wrote me to confirm that the Hudsonian Godwit was
banded at Chiloe Island, and added that it was banded in January 2010. I
couldn't have asked for a better, more complete answer. Thanks to
everyone that responded. I will say without qualification that the
knowledge base of the cobirds community is extraordinary. I hope others
appreciate how lucky we are in Colorado.
My job duties precluded a follow-up visit to the Great Plains Reservoirs
today. If anyone else observes these birds, please provide an update to
cobirds.
Sincerely,
Duane Nelson
Las Animas, Bent County, CO
