Greetings All,

Today, I wandered from Crow Valley to Windsor L to Loloff Res and then to
Longmont.

As Nick noted, the BL KITTIWAKE continues to patiently paddle around Windsor L.
~350 Common and ~35 RB Mergansers were still present along with 200+
Western/Clark's Grebes for an impressive showing in a relatively small lake.
Swallows clearly arrived in numbers, with an estimated 180 Barn, 150 Cliff, 45
Tree, 10 Violet-green, and 8 Bank Swallows swooping low over the water and
perched on wires.

A raven over Longmont Cemetery on Main St had the marks of a CHIHUAHUAN RAVEN,
including direct size comparison with an American Crow. Also, around 4pm, two
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS flew over the cemetery, one settling, apparently to roost,
in the adjacent neighborhood.

Another BROAD-WINGED HAWK, an adult, was in the trees along the St Vrain at
Golden Ponds in Longmont this evening. A SWAMP SPARROW was near where the
Winter Wren spent the early winter at Golden Ponds. The swallow collection at
Golden Ponds was not as impressive as that at Windsor L, but included 50 Barns,
10 Violet-greens, plus a couple Trees, Banks, and Rough-wingeds.

Crow Valley Campground was slow, excepting an abundance of WC Sparrows. The
most unusual bird there was a Brown Creeper, apparently a bit on the late side
for the lowlands.

A 2nd year THAYER'S GULL was on the CO-14 side of the N Weld County Landfill.
It stood among 1100 Franklin's Gulls. Another 750 Franklin's were at Drake L.

Other sightings of potential interest include 29 Cattle Egrets just e. of
Greeley on bus. route 34, a borderline early Wilson's Phalarope at Loloff Res.
(plus 11 Marbled Godwits, 20 BN Stilts, 70 Am Avocets), and 9 Marbled Godwits
and a Willet at Black Hollow Res.

Cheers
Steven Mlodinow
