Yesterday we started early at Jack's Canyon on the north end of the Uncompahgre Plateau. One Grace's, a few Virginia's, and a few Orange-crowned Warblers were heard singing there. Dusky Flycatchers were back and vocalizing.
At the nice cottonwood gallery near Gateway were found a Yellow-breasted Chat, many Lazuli Buntings, a few Yellow Warblers, at least one Western Tanager, and Western Bluebirds and Hairy Woodpeckers already feeding young. In the evening I visited Highline State Park to try for the Palm Warbler. No luck on the warbler but did find a nice group of shorebirds including one Snowy Plover. Last night at Rabbit Valley there were three Sandhill Cranes that came in to roost in the evening. One Common Poorwill was heard at our campground. Today at Rabbit Valley we saw one Scott's Oriole. There was also one singing Gray Vireo and one Plumbeous Vireo. Black-throated Sparrows were singing everywhere. Black-chinned Hummingbirds, Northern Mockingbirds, and Black-throated Gray Warblers were also encountered. It was nice to have some warm weather finally!! -- Jason Beason Paonia - Delta County -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
