Arapahoe County:
--Lowrie reports 3 Sanderlings seen on the sandspit near the marina at
Cherry Creek on May 8.
Baca County:
-- On May 7, the following warblers were seen below the dam at Two
Buttes SWA by Kellner and others: Blackburnian, Blackpoll, and
Black-and-white. A Green Heron was also seen here on the 7th. Additional
birds seen here on 5/8, reported by Percival, include Summer Tanager,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and Indigo Bunting.
Bent County:
--Among birds seen at Tempel Grove on May 11 by Kaempfer were Hooded,
Magnolia, and Black-throated Green Warblers.
--The following birds were seen by Kellner and others at Tempel Grove
(Kiowa CR35 at the Ft. Lyon Ditch) on May 6: male Black-throated Blue
Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, male Hooded Warbler, and Indigo Bunting.
Percival reported a Worm-eating Warbler and Ovenbird here on 5/7, and a
Yellow-throated Vireo and Chestnut-sided Warbler here on 5/8. REMINDER:
it is OK to walk along the ditch road on either side of CR35 at Tempel's
Grove. It is NOT OK to walk around in their yard, among their farm
implements, and fields as has happened of late according to the Tempel's
and their workers. Please respect the rights of these nice folks who
fought hard to save the trees that constitute this wonderful oasis
habitat. They didn't save the trees in order to have their yard tromped
and privacy violated. Thanks.
--A Gray Flycatcher was found by Larson in the Hasty campground on May
6. Percival reports a Blackpoll Warbler, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and
Indigo Bunting here on 5/8
Boulder County:
--Nunes reports a female Hooded Warbler at Twin Lakes Open Space
northeast of Boulder on May 10.
--Floyd reports a Tennessee Warbler and Ovenbird seen at Sale Lake on May 8.
--Gent reported a Black-and-white Warbler seen at Twin Lakes on May 7.
--Gent reports a Gray Flycatcher seen on May 5 along Bear Creek about
200 yds. west of trail access off Bear Mtn. Dr. in southwest Boulder.
Cheyenne County:
--Kaempfer reports a BROWN PELICAN seen May 11 at the Kit Carson sewage
pond.
Clear Creek County:
-- A RUFOUS-COLLARED SPARROW was seen/heard in Georgetown on May 8 by
Davis, and refound and photographed by Davis on May 9 near the
intersection of 8th & Rose St.. It has been seen again in the same
location on the 10th. While the sparrow is almost certainly an escaped
cage bird (range is southern Mexico to Tierra del Fuego; no ABA North
American records), who knows? - birds have wings.
Douglas County:
--On May 2 Lentz found a TRICOLORED HERON in the Plum Creek delta at
Chatfield State Park. The heron has been seen in the same area daily
(but often with some difficulty) at least through May 7. To look for the
heron, the best plan seems to be to walk out to the end of the Plum
Creek delta sandspit and search to the south in the area of heavy
vegetation. A Green Heron was seen by Sanders near the new heron
overlook on 5/7.
El Paso County:
--Burns reports a Northern Parula seen daily May 8-10 at Sondermann Park
in Colorado Springs.
Jefferson County:
--Boice reports a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak seen east of Prospect Park
in the Wheatridge Greenbelt on May 10.
--Hager reported a male SCARLET TANAGER seen just east of Bass Lake in
the Wheatridge Greenbelt on May 10.
--Henwood reported the following birds seen at the Red Rocks trading
post on May 10: "slate-colored" Fox Sparrow, Curve-billed Thrasher,
White-throated Sparrow, Harris's Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow, and
Lazuli Buntings.
Mesa County:
--A BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was reported by Frid (an Ontario birder) on
Devil's Kitchen Trail in Colorado National Monument on April 9. It was
still there at least thru April 28, though it had moved closer to the
trailhead due to a flash flood in the area. Parking is limited in the
area. Please do not park along the road or off road. Please stay on
trails and use restraint in approaching the bird. Dogs are not allowed
in the Monument.
Directions courtesy of Larry Arnold: use the East entrance to CNM.
After passing through the East Entrance station go about .2 miles and
you will see a road to the right leading to the Devils Kitchen Picnic
Area. Stay on the main road and on the left side there is a small
parking lot at the Devil's Kitchen Trailhead. Use that lot if space is
available. If space is not available there, use the picnic area
?parking. Take the trail and stay to the right. Look and listen for the
bird where the trail levels off in a large sagebrush meadow.
Otero County:
--Kaempfer reported hearing a Black Rail (and Virginia Rails) at Bent's
Old Fort NHS east of La Junta on May 9. Also on May 9, he reported
seeing 14 shorebird species at Lake Holbrook.
Prowers County:
--Kaempfer reports a Golden-winged Warbler seen at the north end of the
Lamar Community College woods on May 11. Toward the southern end of the
woods, he found Philadelphia, Cassin's, and Red-eyed Vireos.

cemetery on May 7.
