Congratulations for Paul and Polly Wren Neldner for identifying that
Ruby-throated Hummer. It is only because of them that I find it
necessary to suggest I may have had one as well. Last night I noticed
something 'different' about a red throated hummingbird on a feeder.
It had a white spot near the eye...and without my glasses on, I
wondered if there was something wrong with it's eye..it reminded me of
the inner-eye on a Dipper rather than an injury; the bird looked
fine. Oddly though, it was nearly silent in flight; no cricket-sounds
like the Broad-tailed. That said, I will confess that I could not
tell a Ruby-throated Humming bird from a Broad-tailed...or an Allen's,
for that matter. Still...with Polly's report, it makes me wonder who
visited!

The other night, I came outside and scared-up a Great Blue Heron from
a tree at the back of my yard...from which a bird would have a perfect
view of my little pond. While I doubt it could fish there ( 3' deep
and straight sided), I imagine it was just checking things out. I
don't mind...I call the pond a bird-feeder, anyway. I have Belted
Kingfishers, yanno.

Then this morning, I came nose-to-nose with a couple Brown-capped Rosy-
Finches.  With Spring well on it's way...this was a bit of a surprise;
did I even see them in April this year? Beautiful birds...on the same
thistle feeder where I discovered them several years ago, and dubbed
them 'Pink-butts', till I could learn what they were. Okay, I still
call 'em that.

So, here's the list of the birds IN my yard the past two weeks; fly-
overs not included.
