While birding on the Canon City Riverwalk Saturday I saw a large flycatcher
at the top of a tree almost directly above me that turned out to be an
Olive-sided Flycatcher (though the view from right below was rather odd).
Then a second Olive-sided Flycatcher flew into the top of a tree behind the
first one--very nice see 2 of this species of conservation concern (actually
listed as a Candidate species on the Endangered Species program). Didn't
see any on Sunday but didn't go birding on the Riverwalk until mid-afternoon
due to light rain/misty conditions but saw 2 again yesterday (same location,
maybe same birds layed over to feed)--and they sang back and forth for
several minutes, how cool.

Though I didn't go birding until mid-afternoon Sunday, I saw 8-10 empidonax
(empids) flycatchers on the Canon City Riverwalk then on my friend's farm
near Canon City. Yesterday morning I saw 4-5 empids on the Canon City
Riverwalk and several more later in the afternoon at my friend's. Several
of these empids were fairly obvious Gray Flycatchers. Though I tried to
make several others into Hammond's I gave that up as an exercise in
futility. Several I got good photographs of meet criteria for Traill's
(since they didn't vocalize). I have posted pics of several of the empids
that I got good photos of and several photos of the Olive-sided on my Birds
And Nature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> blog.

There were also good numbers of Gray Catbirds, Yellow Warblers,
Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Swainson's Thrush on the Canon City Riverwalk
over the past few days while Western Tanagers are present in reducing
numbers. This morning I enjoyed a very pretty Virginia's Warbler, a quick
view of a Green-tailed Towhee and a veritable swarm of Black-headed
Grosbeaks chasing each other.
