John Stump, Jerry Poe and myself did our annual San Luis Valley Big Day
yesterday. Fortunately, we did it on the first pleasant, non-windy day in about
a week (planned by luck!). Owling started it off at 4:00 am. We saw some great
birds too.....

Northern Pygmy-owl put on a close-up show
Black tern
Peregrine Falcon chasing phalaropes
Townsend's Warbler (rare spring record)
Green heron
Baltimore Oriole in Alamosa

We missed a bunch and ended up with 126 species for the day. That is far short
of the record 143, but still better than other years. It was a fun day
afield....
