John Stump, Jerry Poe and myself did our annual San Luis Valley Big Day yesterday. Fortunately, we did it on the first pleasant, non-windy day in about a week (planned by luck!). Owling started it off at 4:00 am. We saw some great birds too.....
Northern Pygmy-owl put on a close-up show Black tern Peregrine Falcon chasing phalaropes Townsend's Warbler (rare spring record) Green heron Baltimore Oriole in Alamosa We missed a bunch and ended up with 126 species for the day. That is far short of the record 143, but still better than other years. It was a fun day afield....
