Construction is ongoing at the Lowry Great Lawn -- as part of the Westerly
Creek Wetlands -- in the Lowry neighborhood of eastern Denver. However, much
of the construction is completed.
It is east of Dayton and 6th Avenue -- it is west of Uinta and Lowry Boulevard.
Local nearby landmarks include Machebeuf High School, Bonfils Blood Bank and
the Denver Hospice. I give these landmarks and directions because it's all new
and some areas are still under construction. There is a stop-light entrance
from Lowry Boulevard. It is nice to have something new "in town" for those
living in the eastern Denver or western Aurora area.
This morning, I was able to see these birds on my walk-about.
American Avocet
Long-billed Dowitcher
Spotted Sandpiper -- many
Killdeer -- many
Great Blue Heron
Snowy Egret
Tree Swallow
Barn Swallow -- many
Mallard
Western Meadowlark
House Finch
Red-winged Blackbird
Brewer's Blackbird
American Robin
Western Kingbird
European Starling
House Sparrow
Double-crested Cormorant
There are nice trails (both gravel and cement) near the Westerly Creek channel,
lakes and wetlands area in front of the high school. It is new and a bit
barren, but should grow in nicely over the next few years.
