This morning for all of about 5 seconds, there was a bird that looked strongly like a female Rose Breasted Grosbeak at my feeder in Niwot. I saw the bird, and grabbed the nearest binoculars, which were not great. I wasn't sure if it was a first year male, or female either Black Headed or Rose Breasted. Looking at Sibleys, because the bird literally left after 5 seconds, it seemed much more like a RB becasuse of the strong streaking on the breast, lack of orangish color, and a strong black and white striped appearance on the head. Unfortunately, it was not around for long enough, nor are my skills at distinguishing female RB from BH Grosbeaks that strong, but it seemed closer to a RB or possibly a hybrid. Black Headed and Evening Grosbeaks have made appearances regularly, if briefly, in my yard in Niwot during spring migrations, but never RB as far as I have seen. -Elena Klaver
