This morning, while searching in the early morning rain (yeah!) for the
Chestnut-sided Warbler (not refound) at Bear Creek nature Center,
I saw a Spotted Towhee singing with a band on his right leg.
We have done banding demos on occaision at BCNC and we band on the right leg
in even numbered years.
Looking at my banding records, this bird (being a resident species, so not
likely banded elsewhere) was most likely banded in June 2006 (no towhees
were banded there in 2010 or 2008)
- making it either five years or greater than five years old!
