Greetings All

Well, last night's weather seemed to bring rarities hither and yon across NE
Colorado.
My major highlights were

Prewitt Reservoir, Washington County:
ALDER FLYCATCHER (2)- both calling, one of which was singing. Prolonged views
as well
LEAST FLYCATCHER (2)-- I know, they are really more uncommon than rare.
OVENBIRD (2)
SUMMER TANAGER (1)
AMERICAN REDSTART (1)

Glenmere Park, Greeley, Weld County:
The "nature trail" heading west from the park had
BROAD-WINGED HAWK (imm)
MAGNOLIA WARBLER

Fossil Creek Res, Larimer County:
CASSIN'S KINGBIRD (at least I think this is pretty rare in Larimer; didn't
trigger ebird flag, but from Colorado Birds, etc....)

The town of Akron in Washington County was hot, windy, dusty, birdless... not
that different from Akron, OH, except substitute smog for dust (joke... please
no outraged offense from ex-Akronites, or is it Akronians?)

Now, in addition to the list of rarities noted above, Prewitt held many
passerine surprises. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised by some of these, but...
Birds gone east:
1 RN Sapsucker
1 Cordilleran Flycatcher
3 Plumbeous Vireos

Birds that seem a bit late:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Myrtle Warbler
Pine Siskin

Also, numbers of birds were superb. These counts are from travel on foot, not
by car:
4 Olive-sided Flys
22 W Wood-Pewees
45 Western Kingbirds
29 Eastern Kingbirds (yes, the place was noisy)
13 Warbling Vireos
19 House Wrens
59 Yellow Warblers
7 Orchard, 12 Bullock's and one Bullock's x Baltimore Oriole

I had 60 non-waterbird species there. Who knows what might have been found if
I'd had a bit of help :o)

Also, I stopped at the Weld Co Rd 59 ponds on my way out to Prewitt, and had 37
Stilt and 3 Baird's (late?) Sandpipers.

Finally, the heron colony at Glenmere Pk, Greeley now contains Snowy and Cattle
Egrets
My nestestimates were: 26 BC Night-Heron nests, 23 Snowy Egret nests, and 5
Cattle Egret nests.
There were, already, 3-6 fully fledged crisp-plumaged juvenile Black-crowned
Night Herons hanging around the colony.

Good Luck and Good Birding
