Went camping in the Wet Mountains (Custer County) at a place called Burris Field/Meadow on some maps; on CR 360/361 - Google Map location <http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?source=s_d&saddr=12705+Colorado+165,+Rye,+CO +81069-8634+(Bishop's+Castle)&daddr=38.066406,-105.104399&hl=en&geocode=CYQR 9W4HBHoYFZngQgIdlZm--SGXhfz8WtajIg%3B&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=14&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll =38.05512,-105.125427&spn=0.031055,0.052142&t=h&z=15&msid=200935023114083776 748.0004a492b01b8865554f5> .
Had one Flammulated Owl calling both nights; but only briefly. On Friday night it started at 8:43pm and called about 20 times. Did not hear it again the rest of the night; but was probably sleeping by 10pm myself. Again the next night (didn't check time, but seemed to be about a half hour later). Again, only called a few times. It appears that the owl was calling from private property. But easily heard from the road. 25 species in all seen/heard before the hurricane winds started at 3am Sunday morning and never stopped. Complete list below. I had hoped for and checked for waterthrush and ovenbird along Ophir Creek; but none found.
