I happened to be there at Belmar Park/Kountze Lake later in the day,
about 4pm or so. I can confirm that avocets appear to be exhibiting
nesting behavior on the island. I saw one chasing a goose away from a
nest, which I thought was absolutely hilarious. I have a couple of
distant pictures of an avocet sitting on a nest.

I missed the mockingbird, but we did get a good look at the nesting
flickers in the tree just east of the south end of the boardwalk/
bridge. We could hear (but not see, of course) what sounded like many
hungry young ones inside the nest hole.

Also, there is a swallow nest in the ceiling inside the bridge area.
We didn't see the swallows, but some locals told us that they saw them
earlier in the day and that they are nesting up there.
