Yesterday watched an unusual female hummer at the feeders just inches
from my kitchen window. I say unusual for June 14, not for a bit
later in the year.

She was small, but not as small as a Calliope and much more of that
buffy-rufous on her flanks. She was green-backed and had very dark
wings when folded. Her tail had the rurous-red at the base, on each
side, becoming black with white tips visible when she flared it.

She had a considerably buffier belly than other females at the feeders
right now; to my eye she is a Rufous Hummingbird; a few weeks earlier
than I've seen one before.

I've also been hearing a fly-catcher the past few mornings; perhaps
the Western Wood-pewee I often see around here.
