Hi all:
?
Tim Smart and I toodled around Weld County today, but only our last stop
provided anything out of the ordinary for the date.
?
Nunn -- no long-tailed tyrannid for us, despite searching extensviely along 100
Road
?
Murphy's Pasture, Pawnee -- 'Twas a very odd trip for two reasons: 1)? I saw
Chesnut-collared Longspur (one male, no others)?before McCown's Longspur and
saw more Chestnut-collareds than McCown's!? Quite a few Cassin's Sparrows,
including one carrying food, and a couple of Brewer's Sparrows.
?
59 Road Ponds -- at least three broods of Black-necked Stilts, but no Am.
Avocet broods and no migrant shorebirds
?
Loloff Res. -- 3 Greater Yellowlegs, but no Wilson's Phalaropes!!
?
48 Road along S side of Lower Latham Res. -- at least 3 broods of Black-necked
Stilts, but no migrant shorebirds; 1 Virginia Rail called once; female Common
Yellowthroat carrying food
?
Beebe Draw -- 25 Am. Avocets and no yellowlegs, but 10 Western Sandpipers and 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper [Steve and Bill, are you sure you didn't mis-ID some
Westerns as yellowlegs? :-)? ]
?
LUNA Res. -- 1 alternate-plumaged Horned Grebe (Tim has been seeing the beast
since 21 June and he's seen it 6 times, now), 1 molting male Lesser Scaup, 3
Redheads, two molting male Greater Scaup (seen in company with the Lesser; both
birds were larger with larger and round heads and larger bills); 2 Am. Avocets;
a goodly number of Ring-billed Gulls with a couple of Cals
