Highlight species include: (* denotes that there is new information on this species in this report) Broad-winged Hawk (*Jefferson) LESSER NIGHTHAWK (Larimer) MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD (Larimer) Black Phoebe (Delta) SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER (Larimer) White-eyed Vireo (Pueblo) Bell's Vireo (Yuma) Winter Wren (Boulder) Boulder County: --A Winter Wren was reported by Boswell in Wild Basin on July 25. It was singing 100m below the second bridge on trail to Calypso Cascade. Wild Basin is part of Rocky Mountain NP and so a fee area and can be accessed from Hwy 7 above Allenspark. Delta County: --A Black Phoebe was reported by Cooper at the entrance to the old Hotchkiss Sewage Lagoon on July 26. Jefferson County: --A calling Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Kellner at Chatfield SP on July 30. It was south of the west entrance where the road to the hrose stables turns off the main park road. Larimer County: --A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Wild on Hwy 402 about 1 mile east of Hwy 287 on July 21. --A female MAGNIFICIENT HUMMINGBIRD was reported by Kogler at Tunnel Campground on July 22. Tunnel Campground is 5 mile north of Hwy14 on Laramie River Road. --A LESSER NIGHTHAWK was reported by Wild west of Loveland on July 29. Pueblo County: --A singing White-eyed Vireo was reported by Silverman at Greenhorn Meadows Park in Colorado City on July 8 and refound by Arnold on July 28. Yuma County: --Bell's Vireo was reported by Edwards at Bonny Reservoir on July 25. The DFO field trip for Saturday, August 6 will be to Central South Platte River led by Jackie King (720-381-3314). Meet the leader at 0700 at Parking Lot W at 4th and Walnut St. on the Auraria Campus. Will walk along the greenbelt and see what birds are living in the heart of downtwon Denver. Bring dring water and snack for a half day trip. Parking costs $2 for all day. From I-25 take Speer Blvd. South to Auraria Parkway then turn right to 7th St. at 7th St turn left one block to Walnut, Turn right on Walnut and continue to 4th and you will see the parking lot on the South side of the street. Please call leader if going. Meeting place is very near to the light Rail State close to Elitches Garden. The DFO field trip for Sunday, August 7 will be to Rocky Mountain National Park led by Ed Holub (303-979-2194). Meet the leader at the Visitor Center (Park Headquarters just this side of Beaver Meadows entrance to the park. This will be an all day trip so bring lunch, extra water and sufficient clothing for a change in weater. Trip will probably finish by 3 pm or so.
