This morning (Aug 12) near Hotchkiss I encountered a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos while surveying for the species as a part of a western Colorado inventory for RMBO. They were calling frequently and behaving nervously. Jacob Cooper also witness this type of behavior on Sunday, Aug 7th. At one point I saw one of the pair fly up Leroux Creek carrying a large mass of insects (presumed grasshoppers which are extremely plentiful in the area). This is the very same location where an active cuckoo nest was located on July 21, 2008.
