While taking a walk for exercise (and birding without binocs) we saw a Western Scrub-Jay in the Coyote Run Open Space (Louisville) at the intersection of the east-west trail and where one can take a trail and head north toward S. Boulder Road. This was about 1:00 p.m. today. The bird had what looked like a peanut and landed in a shrub and put it down on the limb or leaves. Then it picked up the nut and flew to another bush and ultimately decided to fly down to the ground and "hide" the nut in short grass at the edge of the trail. We were lucky we stopped to observe hummingbirds resting in the bushes or would have probably not seen the jay. We do not often see the Western Scrub-Jay in Louisville.
